For those of you who have been following this blog religiously you’ll remember that September was Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the UK. For those of you who haven’t been following our blog, shame on you!
Here at Metcalfe’s skinny we’ve partnered with CLIC Sargent who do wonderful work in supporting young cancer patients and their families. Back in September, Anuj and I decided to raise money for this wonderful charity by cycling to Amsterdam.
We set off on Friday 26th September first thing in the morning. Over 12 hours and 90 miles later we arrived in a dark and cold Harwich. Our bodies were aching and I just wanted to go home but we knew we had to persevere on. An overnight ferry across the Channel followed and then first thing Saturday we were back on our bikes. Despite not being able to sit on my saddle for the whole of Saturday we eventually made it to Amsterdam in time for a hard-earned lunch.
We covered over 140 miles in a day and a half and raised £2,700 for CLIC Sargent. Both Anuj and I thankfully made it back to the UK in one piece (although both our bikes didn’t – mine was a victim of Amsterdam’s notorious bike crime and Anuj’s the victim of airline mishandling). That’s karma for you!
